Brittany Renner Is Demanding the Court Increase P.J. Washington's Child Support Payments to at Least $35K Monthly, Arguing That $5,500 Is Insufficient for Their 4-Year-Old Son
In a new filing released this week, Brittany Renner, a journalist for TMZ Sports, is urging a court to raise P.J. Washington's child support payments to a minimum of $35,000 per month. She claims that the current $5,500 figure is inadequate, especially given the high cost of living in California, where they now reside. Renner’s request stems from her belief that the financial strain of raising their son in such a luxurious environment is unsustainable.
Renner’s case was presented to the judge in documents obtained by TMZ Sports, detailing her struggles with affording the increased expenses. She argues that despite the initial agreement of $5,500, their lives have shifted dramatically since moving to California late last year. In the past, they lived together in North Carolina, but now she and her toddler are in a different state, facing a vastly different cost of living. Renner notes that Washington has been exercising less than half of the visitation time he’s entitled to, which she says has left her struggling to make ends meet.
In her filings, Renner highlights the stark contrast between her own life and Washington’s. She describes Washington’s lavish lifestyle, including multiple luxury vehicles, designer shopping attire, and frequent luxury vacations. She also mentions that their children are often seen in designer clothing, while she lives in a humble Airbnb rental in West Hills and shops for her son at Target. Renner further requests that Washington pay her attorney’s fees totaling $50,000, arguing that his wealth should not exempt him from financial responsibility for his child.
The matter is set for a hearing in November. While the court will likely weigh the merits of the request, the debate over child support amounts and the role of parental income in determining payments remains a topic of contention. Critics argue that child support should be based on the child’s needs rather than the parent’s wealth, while supporters contend that parents should bear the financial burden of raising their children. This is a contentious issue that many families face, and it underscores the complexities of balancing compassion with practicality in legal matters.
