Reasons to Make this Avocado Mousse Recipe

  • It’s eggless – that means there is no need to sterilize or pasteurize eggs. Moreover, you won’t need a mixer to beat eggs which you will have to wash later. If you are allergic to eggs, you need this recipe for sure!
  • No-Cook dessert – All you need to do is to blend all the ingredients in the blender until smooth and then chill in the fridge.
  • Quick and easy – it takes about 5 minutes to prepare this avocado mousse using 4 ingredients. That makes it also perfect for entertaining on a budget. I consider it one of those great easy pantry recipes.
  • It’s gluten-free and can become keto, vegan, and dairy-free too – to make it keto, replace the sweetened condensed milk with canned coconut milk, and the sugar with monk fruit. For a dairy-free version, use canned coconut milk, and to adapt it to a vegan diet, use canned coconut milk and coconut sugar instead of sweetened condensed milk and granulated sugar.
  • Affordable – it costs less than most desserts, about $1.25 per portion or person.
  • Have a fresh taste of the avocado fruit -- You can taste the avocado itself, instead of disguising it with chocolate -- which most recipes out there do!
  • Versatile – you can transform it into ice cream by freezing it. Or you can use the mousse as a filling for cupcakes. If you mix it with melted chocolate or blend it with 2-3 tablespoon of cocoa powder, you can vary the recipe, transforming it into a chocolate avocado mousse.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Avocados: these must be ripe yet firm. Before buying them, touch them to see if they’re soft to the touch yet firm. Moreover, ripe avocados have darker skin and are green underneath the small stem or cap. When peeled back, the small stem will come away easily.
  • Sweetened condensed milk -- you may use canned coconut milk instead if you’re on a dairy-free, vegan, or keto diet.
  • Lime juice – this must be freshly squeezed and will balance out the sweetness of the sugar and sweetened condensed milk. It’ll help to slow down the darkening of the fruit. You may use lemon juice if you’d like to.
  • Sugar – use coconut sugar if you’re on a vegan diet or monk fruit if you’re on a keto diet.

How to make the avocado mousse

Eggless Avocado Mousse Recipe (3)

Unlike other recipes, our avocado mousse recipes don’t take chocolate. Yet it is fresh and you can taste the avocado instead of disguising it with chocolate.

  1. To prepare it, simply blend pitted and peeled avocados with sweetened condensed milk, lime juice, and sugar in a blender until smooth and creamy, about 30-60 seconds.
  2. Then, pour the mixture into ramekins, cover, and chill in the fridge until set, for at least 45-60 minutes to up to 2 hours.
  3. Serve by itself or topped with chopped pistachios, berries, or a dollop of whipped cream. It’s one of those easy 5-ingredient or less recipes that you want to try!

See? Easy peasy! In fact, any kid could make it quite easily!

Tips

  • Make sure avocado is ripe yet firm; otherwise, it will not taste good and will leave streaks of avocado oil in the mousse.
  • Blend all the ingredients together very well until smooth and creamy. A chunky “mousse” is not a mousse. Agree?
  • Let the avocado mousse chill, covered, for at least 2 hours for the best mousse-like consistency. It will also help the flavors set.

What can go wrong with that avocado, it will be so creamy sweet deliciousness. First when I came here I saw people putting avocadoes in something savoury which was really odd for me as in the Philippines we use avocadoes mostly for dessert.

It's not common for us to have avocado in desserts, we are more than eat it with a lot of salt. But I used avacoda instead of butter in some recipes and gave an incredible touch.

I hope you try, Sonali! In Brazil, we have many desserts made from avocado: ice cream, popsicle, mousse, creme brulee, yogurt, smoothie, etc. This is our preferred way to eat avocados: In sweet preps... because avocado is a fruit afterall.
