as a rural user, I have little isp choice and no good access to knowledge resources. I NEED to get off of atlanticbb.net and onto a 21st century email program. The available info from the isp is so poor that it a) is often self-contradictory; b) does not seem to allow interface with Thunderbird; and c) when I waded through tech support, the expert respondent explained that he was really really bad at email and suddenly the line went dead. Has anyone:1. had direct experience and success with atlanticbb.net? 2. got the patience to walk me through the definitive correct server settings or 3. knowledge that confirms that Thunderbird is incompatible with atlanticbb?

Sorry to throw myself as a rando on your mercy

Chosen solution

As far as I can tell, they only support POP accounts, and the instructions are a bit vague.

Starting from File/New/Existing Mail Account, enter your credentials, then Manual config. On the next page, select POP server and enter these settings:

https://atlanticbb.com/support/email

incoming POP server: mail.atlanticbb.netport: 113security: noneauthentication: password, transmitted insecurelyUser Name: part of address before @

outgoing SMTP server: mail.atlanticbb.netport: 587security: noneauthentication: no authentication

Can't guarantee these will work, and would instead recommend using a mail provider with secure connections, such as gmail or outlook.com.

I don't know that email service provider but on their help page is this:Choose POP3 for the server. For Incoming Mail, type “mail.atlanticbb.net”. #for port use: 113For Outgoing Mail, type “smtp.atlanticbb.net.” or "mail.atlanticbb.net" #for port use: 587Select box next to “Password authentication for the outgoing server.”

  1. + your username should be all email address
  2. + connection security (not mentioned) try "None" and authentification metode "normal password"

Is it working?

Thank you all.

Connecting Thunderbird to atlbb apparently took a village. Connection ultimately required a fair amount of trial-and-error back and forth with a very knowledge tech at Atlanticbb.net. And Sent Email still did not download from the server. (Awaiting work-around). But these are the generic atlbb server settings that work moving forward . . . at least on my PC:

Incoming server:Server Type: POP mail serverServer name: mail.atlanticbb.netYour user name: [your name]@atlanticbb.netPort: 110Connection security: noneAuthentication method: Password, transmitted insecurely

Outgoing server: (SMTP) settings[your name]@atlanticbb.net – mail.atlanticbb.net

Details of selected server:Description <not specified>Server name: mail.atlanticbb.netPort: 25Username: [your name]@atlanticbb.netAuthentication method: Password, transmitted insecurelyConnection Security: None

Sent messages will not download from the server, as a POP setup only downloads the Inbox. An IMAP setup, which they apparently do not offer, allows one to download all folders, Sent, Spam and custom folders.
