Inspired by Exalm'sOld Daysmod, Nostalgic Tweaksbrings back a plethora of Minecraft Alpha,Beta, and Post Releaselost or changed gameplay elements. This mod is intended for nostalgic enthusiasts who want to relive the glory days of Minecraft Java edition by tweaking the mod to their nostalgic preference.
Some major nostalgic tweaks included in this mod areold alpha/beta lighting rendering, old alpha/beta fog rendering, old alpha/beta sky and void colors, 2D floating items with disabled diffused lighting, disabled item merging, old combat aesthetics (e.g., disabled particles, sounds, and mob animations), and so much more! There are currently over 90+nostalgic tweaks available in version 1.0.4 with more on the way!
For the best nostalgic experience, I recommend using theGolden Days resource pack by PoeticRainbow. It comes with an abundance of nostalgic packs, such as an alpha and picture perfect pack which coincides wonderfully with Nostalgic Tweaks.
1.19 - 1.19.2 (2.0-Beta Multiplayer) Update
If you are interested in trying out the new and improved 2.0 multiplayer update (currently in beta), you can download it at the mod's Discord server. The update includes a plethora of new tweaks (240+ and counting), such as true old light rendering, old combat, old HUD, and much more. The 2.0 update also comes with a completely revamped configuration system. See the new old light rendering demo video below.

Nostalgic Tweaks in version 1.0 comes with four major categories;Sounds,Eye Candies,Animations, andSwing Speeds. Some of these categories will have their own subcategories that clump together related tweaks. To achieve the most nostalgic experience, it is recommend to have theGolden Days resource pack by PoeticRainbowinstalled. The order of your resource packs matters. Make sureProgrammer Art is first, followed by the order of resource packs listed in the instructions from theGolden Daysresource pack.
The mod currently has over90+nostalgic tweaks that can all be used in singleplayer. Tweaks that are controlled by the server are tagged as such in the mod's config menu. Multiplayer support is the next priority on the mod's project road map. Until then, tweaks that are controlled by the server will only run on singleplayer in version 1.0+.

Swing
One unique feature provided by Nostalgic Tweaks (which should be a mod in its own capacity) is the ability to set the swing speed animation of everything.You can change swing speeds by category, potion effect, globally, or individually by item. See the mod's config section below on swinging for more information.
To open the mod's configuration menu, pressO for "Old" while in-game. This hotkey can be changed in the vanilla controls menu. Alternatively, if you have mod menu installed for Fabric, then you can also access the configuration screen through theMods button.You can change the page that opens when pressing this hotkey by clicking theSettings button on the mod's settings homepage. The first category that appears when this button is clicked is the General category.Under theMenu Settings subcategory, you can pick which menu that opens by default.
TheCustom Speedsbutton on the mod's settings homepage allows a user to define swing speeds for individual items. To change the speed of different categories (e.g., blocks, tools, items, etc.), or to define a global swing speed, access theSettingsmenu and click on theSwingcategory button. Further instructions are displayed on the configuration screen.
Each tweak will have tags next their name in the configuration menu. Each tag identifies different aspects of each tweak. The most important tags are theClient,Server, andReload/Restarttags. You can hover your mouse over each tag to see more information as a tooltip. You can also disable some tweak tags from appearing in theGeneral category under theMenu Settingssubcategory.
Currently, the configuration menu comes with a fairly simpleSearchfeature. Right now it only matches typed input by a tweak's locale name. You can broaden your search by usingSearch Tags. To see all the search tags available to you, access theGeneral category and open theSearch Tags subcategory to read more.
Lastly, the configuration menu does come with a few keyboard shortcuts.Ctrl + F opens the search box,Ctrl + S saves and exits the config menu,Escexits the config menu, andCtrl + L, Alt + L, Ctrl + R, or Alt + Rwill change the the config group you are in without the need to click on a category button.
As the project continues to evolve over time, this road map will evolve with it. Currently, the mod's road map at this point in time is outlined below:
1.) Version 2.0 will focus on multiplayer support and adding a newGameplaycategory that will have tweaks that allow users to disable hunger, experience, and more.
The multiplayer 2.0 update is out now as a beta in the mod's Discordserver!
2.) Version 2.1 will focus on refining the mod and the possibility of a newBugs category that will bring back a few of the game's most beloved bugs.
3.)Version 2.2 will focus on building presets which will enable/disable certain tweaks based on the selected preset.
4.) TBD

Nostalgic Tweaks is made universally for Forge and Fabric using Architectury.

If you do come across a compatibility issue, please let me know! It is best to report compatibility issues on our GitHub issue page for better tracking. If you experience issues with a particular tweak, such as weird reequipping animations, then disable the tweak in the mod's configuration menu by turning off the reequip logic tweak.

If your mod pack is distributed on CurseForge or Modrinth, then yes!
Is this mod server safe?
As of version 1.0, yes.
Will there be any backport to version 1.x.x?
Not for Nostalgic Tweaks. Use my previous mod OSECA, for versions 1.12, 1.16, and 1.17.
